Photographing Dolbadarn Castle
Arriving in Llanberis late on a sunny February evening (rare in the UK), we parked up and made our way quickly towards Dolbadarn Castle as the sun began to set behind the mountains. The castle had been on my photography list for quite some time, but every previous visit to the Eryri National Parc had ended with me running out of time before I could capture it.
This trip, however, was for work, and with my meeting taking place close to Llanberis, it provided the perfect opportunity to finally get a shot of the castle.

About Dolbadarn Castle
Occupying a lofty position overlooking Llyn Padarn and beyond, Castell Dolbadarn was a vital link in the defences of the ancient kingdom of Gwynedd.
Constructed by Llywelyn ap Iorwerth (Llywelyn the Great) in the late 12th century, it stood watch over the strategic route inland from Caernarfon to the upper Conwy Valley.
Today all that remains is the round tower and some ruin walls. The tower itself stands at approx 50ft in height and is accessible via steps.
How to Get There
The Castle is located in the Village of Llanberis in Eryri National Parc (North Wales).
The nearest Car Park is – Maes Parcio Parc Padarn, postcode LL54 4TY. This is a pay and display car park with a set payment of £6 all day (at time of visiting).
