With a couple of spare hours to fill, I grabbed my camera bag, jumped in the car, and headed back to my hometown of Watchet on the Somerset coast. The plan was simple: to spend some time capturing long-exposure photographs of Watchet Lighthouse as the tide rolled in.
Luckily, my visit coincided perfectly with high tide, creating ideal conditions for coastal photography. A biting north-easterly wind, however, made its presence well known. Strong gusts meant that very long exposures weren’t practical, so I settled on shorter long-exposure settings between 8-10 secs to maintain sharpness while still capturing movement in the sea.
I chose to set up on the slipway, offering a slightly different viewpoint from many of the Watchet Lighthouse images you’ll find online which are shot from the East Quay.
